Who you kidding -- J.S. doesn't belong onstage with LaBelle, a pinup girl with a soul queen. The odd thing about the Simpson sisters was that they were both awful but in such different ways, not an ounce of soulful musical ability between them, famous because their daddy figured out the game of a declining culture. The takeover of pop by the Mickey Mouse loyalties of pubescent girls, the cute little boy-bands and belly-button blondes, the Justins and the Britneys, digital wizardry and auto-tune and the triumph of looks over talent. Watching this was like seeing Timberlake get onstage with the Stones in Toronto (fans started throwing stuff, Jagger had to scold them). And it only gets worse, little Bieber, the embarrassing Miley... talent my ass.
