I remember My Mate and I , GOD REST HIM, getting the crap beaten out of us in a Pub in Chelsea for singing this song in 1984 It was coming up to Christmas and I remember the Bitter Cold and the feel of the Cold wet Side walk against my cheek as I was being kicked. To this day, I don't know whether it was Brits or Free Staters who beat us. We went home for Christmas. One Friday evening after Christmas, about 20 of us came down from North London, and we nearly demolished the Pub. May all my friends who has passed away, rest in peace. I will never forget this song. Thank you for sharing it.

Why must there be a "mistake" here-this comes up on every version of this great song on YT? The Irish Civil War makes no sense unless you understand that many men who were in the IRA together during the War for Independence were then some years later bitterly fighting each other. I must say, I have no sympathy for the Free Staters.
