Through the years & the more I read other comments about this performance., the more respect I have for the group, just for having the willingness to risk doing this masterpiece, with a different, albeit fantastic version. So many people love this song -it is my all-time # 1 --, & the risk the group took doing it was enormous. Yes, the crowd was with them, but this could have badly bombed. I recently spoke with a woman who was there at the filming of this PBS special in 2002, at The Benedum Center in Pittsburgh PA. She said that 2 performances brought the house down : one was Jerry Butler re-uniting with The Impressions for " For Your Precious Love " ; the other, truly UNEXPECTED, was this perf. by The Miracles, with Sidney Justin just giving it all he had with this classic Smokey tune. No one had heard them--many there didn't know Sidney at all, even from his brief " Shalamar " days. It was a fantastic rendition, & the crowd absolutely loved it. Wolfsky9
