It is so wonderful to see our young military people being people of faith. I know that the Marine Corps has made my son more spiritual. The military is a necessary evil , so to speak, as is law enforcement. People under arms, who are there to defend the rest of us. It is good that these people be spiritual, so that they can prudently carry out their missions, with no more harm or malice than is required. I am not naive enough to think things always work out that way, but it's what we should pray for!

This arrangement is very special to me. I played the first trumpet part with my college brass ensemble at the commencement service for our graduation. It's a little nerve wracking when you have to hit the A above the staff. You're completely exposed there. The West Point Band is an elite Army ensemble. It's made up of NCOs. It's not a cadet band. The director of my college ensemble was himself a member of the band as a sergeant, and chose this arrangement for the service..
