Mont Reals Obscure Disorder was formed in 1995 by four high school friends. As Troy Dunnit, Eclipse and Logik were merging their rhyming skills, Dave One was getting into production. At the same time, Dave Ones younger brother, A-Trak, started messing with the 1200s. The crew figured that the combination of three highly lyrical rhyming styles, cutting edge beats and turntablism had to amount to something dopeTherefore, rather than putting the emphasis on live shows, Obscure first stayed on the DL, with each member individually developing his craft. Dunnit combines confident, hard knock, gravel-tone delivery and mass appeal hooks. Eclipse spits hypnotic, poignant verses detailing his own outlook on daily trials. Logik, on bassy vocals, delivers cleverly orchestrated true-school rhyme schemes. Dave Ones syncopated, richly textured beats are the perfect sonic background to unify the emcees eclectic personalities. And finally, what can we say about A-Trak, the 1997 DMC youngest-ever world champion, the 1999 ITF and Vestax world champion, Invisibl Skratch Piklz honorary member and Allies front man? His mind-blowing cuts are undoubtedly what distinguishes O.D. from any other rap group out there.

Obscure Disorder DiscographyIn 1997, Dave One and graphic designer Willo formed Audio Research records in order to release Obscure Disorders first single: Lyrically Exposed (parts 1&2). The record was the first Montreal product to be picked up and distributed world wide by New Yorks prestigious Fat Beats distribution. It sold over 2500 units and was on rotation in college radio programs, including the infamous Stretch & Bobbito Show. Bob, who has been an O.D. fan ever since and even interviewed the group live on air in 1999, describes them as "an expos of exposed Expos extremely egg-cellent. Always solidI always get happy when I know that they have something new coming out." In 1998, the group followed up with Maintain The Focus, which got rave reviews in publications such as URB, Stress and The Source, as well as college radio airplay all over. The crew doubled their previous sales on this one, moving over 5000 units. But it was with the 2004 single, releasd in 1999, that Obscure really broke through, selling more than 8000 units. On this banger, the group collaborated with Brooklyns Non Phixion, one of the most respected underground crews in the East Coast. Says N.P. frontman ILL BiLL, after working with Mont Reals finest, "O.D. is an overdose of intelligent thugism. They make me want to read a book and punch somebody in the face all at the same time". Nuff said. In 2000, due to an overwhelming demand from distributors, Audio Research re-issued the "Lyrically Exposed" single, complete with a bonus cut: Overdose Music, produced by A-Trak. This record got praised by Vibe magazine and sold out in less than two weeks. Finally, last year marked the release of Troy Dunnits solo venture: the Lets Go single. This track found the O.D. frontman reunited with ILL BiLL, as the two spit venemous street rhymes over Dave Ones string symphony. Obscure also appeared Superrappin 2, Groove Attacks coveted compilation of indie elites, with the brand-new track Last Call pt.2.

Obscure Disorder Present and FutureMore recently, Obscure Disorder has been concentrating on live shows. The groups stage formula is simple: three emcess and one DJ no DATs or minidiscs. The result is a dynamic, interactive and most intense performance. O.D. has toured all over the eastern part of Canada and even received a standing ovation in NYC at Bobittos "Words" night. Legendary Montreal promoter Rickey D, who booked the group to open for Eminem, describes Obscure as "one of Montreal's brightest talents. Lyrically gifted with bangin beats. Their dynamite performance radiates that hip hop energy." Last summer, O.D. embarked on a 10-date U.K. tour, impressing underground heads and gaining new fans. The time is now right for an album. O.D.s first magnum opus, tentatively titled Seven Months of Ice, features production by in-house beatsmiths Dave One, A-Trak and Simahlak, as well as Necro and Madlib. Look for cameos by The Juggaknotss Breeze and, of course, Non Phixion. The first single, The Grill, just hit the streets last summer. Seven Months of Ice finds O.D. rocking over varied musical textures, and tackling different topics not your typical battle-rhyme filled underground LP. Displaying a unique artistic maturity, O.D. is bound to satisfy both the streets and the masses.
