This cd is a combination of two of Norman Blake's finest '70s albums,

"The Fields of November" (1974) and "Old and New" (1976). It was released in 1991. It has been re-released in 2008. Some of the best flat picking and musical skills you will hear. Norman Blake also composed the song. Enjoy!

Musicians for both of the original albums:

Norman Blake (vocals, guitar, dobro, mandolin, fiddle, viola)

Charlie Edward Collins (guitar, fiddle)

Arthur Taylor (dobro)

Nancy Ann Short (cello).

Tut Taylor (dobro)

Ben Pedigoe (banjo)

James Bryan (fiddle)

Nancy Blake (viola, cello)

Norman's Great-Grandfather, Rufus I.G. Blake fought with the 39th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment in Cumming's Brigade. Norman's Grandfather, Larkin S. Blake used to tell him the history of the Civil War times only one person removed. The farm Norman was raised on in Sulpher Springs, GA was a family farm once owned and worked by R.I.G. Blake. In 1863 on his way to Chickamauga, GA, Union General George Thomas burned and raised the Blake farm.

He certainly is a treasure & I appreciate you adding your comment! I appreciate it very much. He is uncluttered, yet a masterful player. (This is a bit similar to some of Tim O'Brien's plain mountain music.). If you can figure out the genre, type it into my Search Channel area top rt on my Channel page. Flat picking, acoustic guitar, old time music, Civil War era music, mountain music all will pull up items. Some will be similar, but some won't. I tag instruments also! Thnx for visiting, Moppet

I remember Norman Blake from back in 1985, when he visited the University of Southern Maine at the request of my brother, who was director of events for the university at the time. I am originally from the north. The irony is that I now live in Georgia, and have for over 10 years. I love Norman's music, and always will, as will a great many people in the far north east United States.

I grew up with Norman Blake, among other great folk and bluegrass musicians, and I always come back to him when I need something to make me feel utterly human. This song in particular always makes me tear up. Thank you for putting this up.

Yeah he came up on my Pandora station the other day. Apparently he performed with Bob Dylan and others. Thanks for sharing his songs.

@BnibroC69 yes, he is not as well known as he deserves. I always knew him with others, such as Tony Rice, David Grisman. He is amazing on his own! Thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it very much, Moppet
