Norma Tanega - No Stranger Am I (New Voice - 1966)

Aunque por la línea de esta melodía Norma Cecilia Tanega pueda parecer de otra galaxia, en realidad es de Vallejo, California, y de padres Filipinos.

En 1966 tuvo un gran éxito con su primer single, una cancioncilla llamada "Walkin' My Cat Named Dog". Ello propició la edición de su único LP de la época, en el que se esconde esta maravilla de melodía sinuosa e imposible.

Poco después Norma Tanega se mudó a Londres donde confraternizó especialmente con Dusty Springfield, con quien hizo algunas colaboraciones. De hecho, la versión de Dusty de esta misma canción roza lo sublime y es mucho más conocida. Aunque esta, la original, tiene ese toque etéreo y frágil que me sigue deslumbrando.

Although by the line of this melody Norma Cecilia Tanega may seem from another galaxy, in fact she comes from Vallejo, California, and of Philipine parents. In 1966 she had a great success with her first single, a little tune called "Walkin' My Cat Named Dog". This motivated the release of her only LP in those times, an album which is hiding this wonder of winding and impossible melody.

A bit later Norma Tanega moved to London where she befriended specially with Dusty Springfield, with whom she did some jobs. In fact, Dusty's cover of this very same song is scratching the sublime and is much more well known. But this, the original one, has that certain etereal and fragile touch that keeps on dazzling me.
