This song was originally written and recorded by Dave Grohl in 1990. It appeared as "Color Pictures of a Marigold" on his 1992 release Pocketwatch, an out of print cassette on the Simple Machines label. He used the band name Late!

Nirvana recorded another version of the song, which would end up as the b-side on the "Heart-Shaped Box" single, in 1993 during the In Utero sessions. Grohl sang vocals, played drums and guitar while Krist played the bass.
