Quick-fire opinionated teens, like knowgirl D. Lameson, will fire out at Nico's voice. But if they would do a bit of learning, they would understand why Browne chose Nico to sing his song. Her history is beautifully tragic, and she sings with her soul, her words echoing strong meanings. And yes, she was deaf in one ear, but it's quite crass to fault her for it. She grew up in a warzone.

The intro sounds a lot like Third week in Chelsea.To be fair, Nico probably comes from an entirely different musical tradition, cabaret style for example which has neverbeen held to the same sugary standards as western music. Also, she had a career in the arts before meeting Warhol.

One of my favorite Jackson Browne songs but sorry - it's not that I'm not open - I love Marianne Faithful, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Dylan - but this woman is a dog howling at the moon. Absolutely no artistic merit. NOW - if she'd written it, I'd see it differently - but really - she has a four note range, she's tone deaf. Her celebrity and her "musical career" only occurred as a result of Warhol's obsessive adulation of her.
