This is a great rock and roll classic from Larry Williams, and the Beatles did a legendary version of it. Here's my best attempt at a cover of that. The vocal is a real screamer, but it's really fun to sing. What's NOT fun about this song is the bass line. Paul McCartney played a bass line from hell. There's so many notes and so much movement that I had to do a ton of takes to get it right. Besides that, there's a mean rhythm guitar in the back (check the Rickenbacker) playing something close to what the bass plays. The lead guitar is ridiculously simple and easy. Anyways, hope you like it, enjoy!

theselector, to answer your question, I'm not sure. I think the rhythm guitar part probably came from John's capabilities as a guitarist. He was really good at those "chunka chunka" rhythms, and if you notice, all the chords he has to play in this song are open (A, D, E...that's it). That being the case, it's really easy to put those rock and roll riffs into your bass notes on the rhythm guitar, without really getting distracted to the point where you can't sing. That being said, the record version is significantly more difficult, as you can see...live, in most videos you watch, he opted to just use open chords and not as much intricacy in the rhythm.

If only you'd produce some up and comers songs too 'hint' 'hint' :) love the rawness of your voice on this. Keep em coming.

THIS IS BRILLIANT NICK, Congratulations!!!!! Just a question. The Rhythm guitar part - did John play it this way to imitate the saxophones on the original? Or is he playing the way Larry did? Thanks

Haha, no. There's nothing from the original recording in this. Zero. Plus my version is 1/2 step down so Lennon's vocal would not work over it ;)

Is Lennon's vocals tracked in there somewhere? I swear I can here him.
