This song clearly marked the right turn that was punk, both toward the bottom/center of the circle, and the anarchic top/center of the circle, (kind of meeting Archie Bunker halfway, in either case). A very New Yorky "When I'm gettin' home to you / I gotta show you what I can do"... but whoops, his stuck on the hippieness of the last decade girl done been watchin' TV images from the far side of the world, and she's "so sorry... busy... sorry... and that's all" she'll do, (or can), about the pitiful foreign baby, on her mind. ("Everything connects / And that ain't nowhere"... cuz cuz what about HIS needs, baby.) So, he is "talkin' bout" her "OVERview" (bizarrely listed on lyric sites as "overture")... and questioning her suddenly-POST-Vietnam-war empathy needs, with the lines: "Now that it's OVER / What you gonna DO?!!!" The only line that doesn't make sense to me is the one that comes after "Match me a slingshot", that sounds like "With every lightbulb queen"... although the lines"And I've got to... / Show you more busted glass / Than any girl's ever seen" which follow it lend some sense... though not to "lightbulb queen". Maybe it was originally intended to be "With every" "lightbulb in Queens", (such as every streetlamp)... but the latter proved too cumbersome to enunciate, and David got amused by "lightbulb queen", and went with it???
