The thing that set New Order apart from other bands of their era is that their music and their visuals (album covers, vides, merch) came at pop from a very 80's gallery art angle. They didn't mean to do that but that's where they landed. It's helped their music survive the 80's without sounding as dated as, say, Duran Duran or Bon Jovi.

Joy Division definitely was a great band, but Ian Curtis defined their music--Bernard Sumner definitely stepped up after his suicide and made New Order its own with his vocals--what a brilliant song from "Pretty in Pink" which was definitely more obscure prior to the release of this movie.

New Order is one of those bands that have been around so long you forget (or at least I forget) sometimes just how amazing their older songs are. I haven't heard Thieves Like Us for a long time but the moment I heard it again it brought me back to my WLIR/DRE days.

I bought 1985 for 10 deutsch marks in 1988 just because I liked the album cover. I'd never heard of the band before or their music, and... oh my god! what a buy! it was awesone. I've constantly listened to all their albums sincs and I love it all; well all except Lost Sirens which is... pants.
