No one hated The Smiths. The Smiths were over the hills and we were in the post indutrial towns with no employment and large empty buildings harking back to a wealthier time. If The Smiths had tried to be like NMA they would have failed. They never had that raw northern punk anger. Must have been something in the water, methinks.
