I believe this is from either The Glen Campbell Good Time Hour, which aired on November 19, 1969, or The Music Scene, which aired on December 1, 1969, the day after his only appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. Although he sang "Holly Holy" on that show, the video from that had been elusive for many years. But I have heard that it is now available on iTunes.

This is lip synced. Over the years I've noticed that many performer don't do well lip syncing their songs. I saw him in concert once back in the late 80 because a friend gave me tickets. I am really glad that I went. A phenomenal show by a great showman.

On this day in 1969 {November 30th} Neil Diamond performed "Holly Holy" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'... Four weeks earlier on November 1st it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #6 and spent 14 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #3 in Australia... In 1970 it was covered by Jr. Walker & the All-Stars; their version peaked at #33 on the R&B chart and #75 on the Top 100... R.I.P. Mr. Walker {1931 - 1995} and Mr. Sullivan {1901 - 1974}

Not a Neil Diamond fan, but (1) he seems uncomfortable in many live performances that I've seen on video or TV and this is one of those, and (2) he sure has a great and powerful singing voice that is never mistaken for anyone else, and (3) is underrated as a songwriter, which may be his best talent. Great writer.

I think that "modern dance" around his performance on stage was considered "art", (enhancing the appearance of the artist??), anyway, I loved his songs!!!
