Song: New World

Artist: Nas aka Nasir Jones aka Nasty Nas

Album: Nastradamus

Label: Columbia Records

This is my favourite song by Nas.

You may recognize the melody in the background, it is sampled from the song Africa by Toto.

See this is why I Have a problem with Jay Z. He had/have people believe Nas Fell off after Illmatic. with Songs like this?! HELL NAW he, Sean Carter was weak for that...Cause Nas Stated on It Ain't Hard To Tell-"My Poerty's Deep I Never Fell" Lol Man the Whole Song is Complete (Xzibit used the Same sample on Hearts Of Men) But the Third Verse WOW Nas was Very Observant.......And to think he was only 26 in 1999...

This record came out in 99, Most rappers aren't willing to go as far as Nas does when it comes to topics like these it requires knowledge, research, and passion. Truly a prophet amongst men.

Nas debe ser un fan de Toto por la base que usó, tambien con la de "Rule", agarro la base de Tears for fears.

Nas drops some serious knowledge on New World. "why do poor people starve? Computers taking over their jobs". Most rappers don't say shit like that in their songs. The whole song is awesome and deep actually. Nas says a lot of real stuff on the track like "Cash is the past and new way is spending"- he correctly predicted that Americans and people in general would become more consumerist in the 21st centurs as compared to before. The stuff he mentions about the CIA always doing covert shit and starting wars/regime overthrows is also real and isn't some conspiracy like the illuminati- there is clear evidence that it has occurred in the past and still occurs today. The whole song is filled with truth.I Am and Nastradamus received too much flack. Nas has some of his best lyrical performances on those two albums with songs like Nas is Like, Undying Love, Come Get Me, and this song. His storytelling ability and imagery were also at they best in 99 and are consistently conveyed in those two albums. The only problem with these two albums is that they have a few wack cuts like Big Girl and You Owe Me but Nas needs to make wack mainstream songs so that he can remain relevant and sell so it's all good. Plus I would listen to those songs over the other shit they push on the radio anyday of the week.

Not to take anything away from Nas but Murder Reigns by Ja Rule was probably the best use of thar Toto sample used for this beat. I'm far from a Ja Rule fan but it just had a more polished feel to it.
