I would say that this song literally refers to someone who is in love with someone who does not exist (I.E., the titan Selene), and this love becomes an obsession [as illustrated with the allusion to Endymion, the tragic lover of Selene who was given eternal life and youth by the gods, but sleeps forever, for the sake of Selene.] .
