Each band has a different sound and it's stupid to label a group/person a certain genre. I enjoy Hayley and Amy, not just Tairrie. I can see were you're coming from too, but My Ruin is considered a alternative metal not rock.

if your talking purely on the tuning then you would go a lot further back and for the genre. If its not earlier than Kittie (another good band, though cleaner sound) then its still one of the originals. Though Tarrie B started similar stylings before joining this band.

95/96 is no earlier than kittie, so how does that make them the originals? I like kittie. and Korn is pretty much the band that made the genre plausible at all while alot of their newer stuff is pretty weak, the took low tuned groove oriented metal to the masses and crafted the sound.

Absolutely! I've heard many of My Ruin's songs and though this may be one of the more "Mainstream" ones - if you can call it that, it's my absolute favourite. You can almost taste the venom as she spits out her words. Generic? Perhaps. But as minesajd so correctly put it, this set the template for many more like it. BOOYA!
