The seventh annual Lakes Bluegrass Festival came back to Pine River and this year featured four national touring bluegrass bands.

The festival, held Aug. 23-26 at the Cass County Fairgrounds in Pine River featured national touring bluegrass bands including Special Consensus from Nashville, Tenn., The Chapmans of Ozark, Mo., Cumberland River of Harlan, Kan., and The Radio Ramblers of Xenia, Ohio. In addition, performances by a host of great regional groups including Monroe Crossing, The Platte Valley Boys, Tim and Cindy & Friends, The Woodpicks, Sawtooth, Blue Hazard, High 48's, the Shaffers Lost 40, and the Fishheads.

Fans enjoyed 40 professional performances along with entertaining emcees, a top-notch sound system, a beautiful stage and a big tent for shade. As in past years, the festival was a fun, family event with top-quality stage performances, instructional workshops conducted by performing band members and informal jam sessions.
