Lyrics:

Mendel's machines replicate in the night

In the black iron prison of St. Augustine's light

He's paying the bills and they're doing him proud

They can float their burnt offerings on assembler clouds

The new Franklins fly their kites

With omega point in the sight

And the post modern empire is ended tonight

From history

The flood of counterfeits released

The black cloud

Reductionism and the beast

Automatons gather all the pieces

So the world may be increased

In simulation jubilation

For the deceased...

Spray-on clothes and diamond jaws

Wrinkles smoothed by nanoclaws

With my machines I can dispatch you

From this world without a trace

Our nostalgia ghosts are ready to take your place

Content-shifting shopping malls

Gasoline trees and walk-through walls

None of them knew...

As I watch the dead rise up out of the earth

I feel the gray goo boiling my blood

Try to hide from the lies as they all come true

Deus absconditus

Deus nullus deus nisi deus

I feel the grey goo boiling my blood

As the fenris wolf slowly bites through his chain

Try to hide the myth as it becomes a man

None of them knew they were robots

Buying an X or an O

Cats game for Joe Blow

In state craft tic tac toe

A binary hug or kiss

Post industrial bliss

Can be wrung from utility mist

They stole the great arcanum

The secret fire

Moloch found his gold

For the new empire

Once again

The necrophage becomes saint

Lindy hop around the truth

Jump back wolf pack attack

Swingin' up there in the noose

Jump back wolf pack attack

Slap back white shark attack

Slap back white shark attack

Phased array diffraction nets

From full-wall paint-on TV sets

Migratory home sublets

And time shared diamond fiber sets

Recombinant logos keys

Bitic Qabalistic trees

I feel the grey goo boiling my blood

As leviathan and his bugs freeze the sea

Try to save the world by immolating myself

The flood of counterfeits released

From history

The black cloud

Automotons gather all the pieces

The resurrection of the deceased

In simulation jubilation

For the builders

So the world may be increased

Of the body of the beast

So far 3 people out of 78,650 should have at least made it to song # 3 (Retrovertigo) or even hopped to song # 6 (Pink Cigarette)There would otherwise be NO dislikes - at all... The whole disc is just yummy candy and gold for the ears as well it messages and invigorates the thinky box, it's just some people need a little "comfortable encouragement" while they are challenged by something this inventive and different then most of what is currently clogging up the air waves.

At the risk of being reductive, one way you can think of this as if it's describing The Matrix and how its perpetuated by people buying into thought systems and blindly performing the functions of the Matrix to maintain the simulation. References to nanobots/robots are figurative; we just believe what we're supposed to believe and do what we're told. It's a bit more than that, but that's an entry point to thinking about these lyrics. And I have to say, wow. I've listened to this song who knows how many times but never read the lyrics before. I had no idea this is what this was about. So in a way, this song is kind of like "Come to the Party" (from PKD/RFA). And it's subliminal to the extent that if you didn't have a lyric sheet in front of you, you'd have no idea what the words were. Brilliant.

The first four lines kinda sums it up. Between the lines it says to me that faith in science/technology is paying his bills and doing you proud. Like the preist and the congregation. You pay your way to salvation but your still a slave (robot) to scripture (protocol). Ultimately there is almost no difference between science and religion. With Science stating there are no absolute proofs in life only theory, subject to be proved otherwise, religion claims the opposite with real life being the contradiction. Through the song I see the parallels between the two unfold darker and twisted, however the frightening realities of modern science are borderline apocalyptic, owing more to theistic revelations than it really should. Fiction from reality. Reality from fiction. When this album came out it was when the internet and technology was really starting to take off, but The Bungle saw its grand flaws before anyone else and elements in Faith No More's Album of the Year. Needless to say, this album was well ahead of its time.

And *telling* them they were robots didn't make a damn bit of difference, either. Oh well

The lyrics are so insanely complex and confusing, but what I can gather from it is that it's about how technology is stripping our humanity and individuality, leaving us as consumerist sheep. And that's evil.JUST MY OPINION, though.

Trey Spurace (who wrote the lyrics to this song) actually explained what the song is about, and the references to nanotech are just used here to drive the point home, it's not actually what it's about. I tried to put it simply here, but I couldn't dumb it down enough to fit here, so I'll just link all you fine gentlemen to the site where I found the info. bunglefever(dot comes here)com/faq.html#vl3.3 Just scroll down until you find what you're looking for.
