The Patton-heads just understand he has an incredible voice that can do virtually anything. Even with Faith No More Patton gets most of the credit despite the fact he didn't really write most of the songs. They don't disrespect the other members of the bands they just prefer Patton's brand of weird over the rest. On top of that when he writes a song that actually makes sense it's just entertaining that it's always about masturbation.

Think about it this way. People don't praise Patton just for Bungle, there is also his other projects with Fantomas, Tomahawk, Mondo Cane and way more. He has the stage presence but also he is easily the one who deserves the most respect just from the hard work he's put to his music. Same with Trevor Dunn in my opinion.
