Although it was terrible what happened to them it's not uncommon to receive the contract that they did...Xscape for example had the same type of deal; however, the problem came when they understood that they were in a air tight contract. The lesson that should've been learned for future artist (today's artist) is stop taking advances, stop taking cars, jewelry, houses...etc because they never tell you that it's coming out of your money & you're the last person to get paid. Lastly, learn the business side & save your money, Kandi from Xscape understood that you're only as hot as your last album. There's always someone ready to ride your coat tails up the ladder & kick you off when they're ready to go higher.

Strong girls. They stuck together. Look at all the other girl groups that were ripped off and taken advantage of.. They ALL broke up. 3LW, 702, Xscape, Total, etc. etc... TLC in my opinion sticks out as one of the VERY few (if not the ONLY) girl group that did not separate despite turmoil. And in a way, you have to thank Pebbles. She did them in but at the same time, she mentored them to STICK together no matter what. Their relationship with her was bittersweet.

It was sad that they were so successful yet broke due to the terrible terms of their contract. Their situation reminds me of what Lou Pearlman did to the Backstreet Boys and Nsync; he made more money than the groups. Luckily, his greed caught up with him and now he is in prison since he was also running a Ponzi scheme. Pebbles in now more or less in obscurity.

The point is that record labels still fuck artists pretty hard and now more than ever because the music industry is collapsing. Many people don't buy albuns anymore, because they can download music for free in the internet. I saw the film Artifact from 30 seconds to mars and i advice all people to see it, just to know how the artists we love are really fucked. They not only don't get the money they do from the sales of the albuns they made, but usually they end up in debt. Now, how a band who has sold more than 10 millions albuns is in debt? That's crazy...
