I would add that for as long as "punk" has existed, there has also been "pop" music. You could say that punk is a reaction to pop. At this point the "punk" sound,image,attitude or ideology has been applied in varying degrees to all sorts of music, including "pop" punk. I really don't care for Sum 41, but their guitar player can shred and they are rich from playing music and having fun, so I can't hate. They aren't near as bad A Simple Plan or all those whiny, make-up wearing emo's either haha.
