The first pioneering record of the whole High Energy scene. Made after four years where I couldn't make a single recording simply because everyone said Disco was dead. Two million sales of this record proved them all wrong. But despite it being number one pop in France and Mexico, and number one in the US on Billboard's dance chart, it never even charted in England, despite selling fifty thousand copies here. Things have certainly changed since then.
Miquel came from Detroit, lived in England, had a small 1970s disco hit called "Symphony Of Love", and was the perfect artist to record my anthem. Her daughter, Sinitta, was Simon Cowell's first ever hit artist.

Ian, thanks for creating such a musical legacy with this song, and your other hits. SMM,SLT should have done better in the US, but it was on a small indie label who didn't promote it properly, and the homophobic media who did receive it avoided it, & mainstream listeners didn't get a chance to hear this epic song. However, so many gay men and women danced their a$$es off to this back in the day from the sense of independence the message portrayed. It was more than "mindless boogie" as disco/dance detractors used to describe club music in the record industry. To me, it's more iconic than "It's Raining Men", which just became campy and burned out from overexposure in mainstream usage.
