This isn't actually straight "jazz", just so you know. This is a transcription of a free-form improvised parody of jazz. If you want to hear some jazz with a "countable time signature", then listen to pretty much anything else. Maybe try some Dave Brubeck.

I like this performance because you can really hear the meter changes Steve Vai notated in his transcription.

You are stupid. Apparently you require a countable time signature and non-random "keystrokes" and "plucking of strings" for excitement. Have fun listening to some boiled down retarded top 40 garbage.

To be fair, the original was improv and then the guitar part was later over-dubbed, so the "perfect synchronization" wasn't live. That was the one and only performance of the song by Zappa and Vai had to sit down and transcribe what Frank was doing with his voice. The guy in this video is actually Zappa's "Stunt Guitarist"... it's not just some dude covering the song.

Zappa doesn't get rejected....he gets unceremoniously ignored due to his non-conformance to the norm.

banjokazoo if you're gonna say something like "jazz is stupid" at least know what you're talking about...for the sake of argument I'll assume you're talking about bebop since that's what most people think of when they think "jazz"...like any other form of popular western music, it's mostly in 4 or some 3 count, has chords, a melody derived from those chords and a groove...how does that equate in ANY WAY to what you said? this isn't even "jazz"...it's completely avant garde

Well, the original version of this song is rather impressive for a specific reason. It's the perfect synchronization of Vai on guitar with Zappa on vocals. It's absolutely impeccable; a single guy playing it on guitar, with none of Vai's nuance, and singing along to it... No comparison.

Jazz is so stupid. No countable time signature anywhere, random keystrokes ans plucking of strings in background is boring.

It's as though FZ sought to construct a sentence which no one else had spoken before. Whatever you think of this song, you must give its its due credit for sheer originality.
