To me it is about a married man and woman very in love their whole lives. When you are in love, you always see the other person through rose colored glasses. You don't see imperfections, you see them as they were when you first fell in love. The women really is an old lady now with bent back, boney fingers, dying, but he still feels in love as when they were young, that is how he sees her. So he is expressing that he is not ready for her to die. The song is about his grief and finally filing her into past memory after death where she will live forever with him. A very tragic, hopeful, romantic, beautiful song.

As much as I love this song, I got to ask: shouldn't it be ''why are your fingers/shoulders like THOSE of a (...)'' instead of 'that'? My English intuition raises a red flag there. I'm not a native speaker of English, that is why I cannot be certain and thus am asking this. I've been wondering about this for years.
