Long before Scott Trusty and fellow Kansas - musicians Gary Hodgden and Jimmy MacAllister joined The Beckies, he sang lead on this Michael Brown - composition. It was only released as a DJ-single.

According to Scott, it was supposed to be something short, so that a DJ could play it, if he needed a few minutes to fill up between talk and commercials. The B-side might've been an instrumental version of the song, but that version seems to be lost (if it ever existed).

This is one epic small gap - filler!

According to Record World, the Big Tree 104 release as Scott Trusty (no mention of Brown), "I Bred Quarter Horses" reached #130 in a 7 week chart run, August-September 1970.

Ha ha, I love this. At 17 I left to see the world my first job at the beginning of my quest was working and breeding Quarter Horses (beautiful animals). The pay was so little that I had to move on. Great song that I can personally relate to.

thanks for this post. Jim MacAllister played this tune for me and I never forgot it. Took me 40 years to find it. Even sent an email to Scott Trusty who replied he had a copy framed on the wall. Never heard back after asking for a digital version.

Big Tree Records (BT104) Scott Trusty - "I Bred Quarter Horses" I worked at Big Tree about a year after this came out, so I don't know much about it other than the correct artist and title listed on the 45. (and I think it was 1970, not 1969)
