Melvins

This was the song that first got me into this group. I first heard 'Night Goat' and thought: "eh..", but then this song came on and I was hooked. Great, weird, lyrics, and so much TEXTURE and layer.... it kicks like a 12 gauge, heavy as nails, and soft as butter, all at the same time. Mad songwriting.

When I first heard of them, The #Melvins were fairly unknown. 20 some years later, they're still unknown. They get name-checked frequently. A lot of other bands, particularly in the metal genre, will cite them as having some kind of influence. They make music that's not easy for many folks to wrap their heads around. Kind of like metal Captain Beefheart. Back in 1991(i think) I bought their #Houdini record, which was their first in a 3 record stint for Atlantic, their one and only "big record deal". I had read in Spin that #Cobain loved these guys(reality is he grew up with them)so I gave them a shot.This track is from the Stoner Witch record, which was the second of their stint with Atlantic. The song is fairly representative of their quirky style. Hopefully, if you're still here, you'll enjoy this, and more.

even tho the melvins themselves may not admit it. Youre right. The spirit of metal carries more thru these guys than 90% of the bands that label themselves "metal". Rock on brother.
