I think this song is about her ex husband or ex boyfriend and he gave her a child, but once he found out about it, he left her. When she fears the animals taking him away from her, it means she fears a child scaring away the guy. The animals tearing him away from her represent the animals of childhood. Stuffed animals. A child coming. When it says, "I pray you won't fear the animals," it's saying how the man feared a baby. She got rid of the child because it reminded her too much of the man that abandoned her. And when she says, "I would give anything," she's saying how she would give anything for her child back. That's just my interpretation, though.
