Demo: 15 Hours on a September Thursday, 1994

It gets dark around here early

Sometimes the moon it'll follow you in the middle of the day

Waiting to be found we were just standing around

With nothing really much to say

I didn't know any better

You didn't think that we should

So we're going to burn down the night

I want to be misunderstood

All four wheels across the pavement

We used to live in black and white

I only think about tomorrow

So it'll get me through tonight

And I ain't laughing

And I ain't joking anymore

I keep my footsteps near the ground

I keep my eyes glued to the floor

And somewhere in between

Only the starlets dream on this side of midnight

And maybe we're just crazy

Maybe we're better off dead

Maybe things will never change

Maybe you got it backwards in your head

The last of the ghetto astronauts to be ignored

Said I'm going to go where no one has gone before

Said I'm going to go where no one has gone before

It gets dark around here early

Sometimes there is more to the moon than just one man can see

The voice without a name cries silent just the same

Just the same way

If I didn't know any better

I'd say that maybe we all should

When the morning comes around

Don't want to be misunderstood

We'll be sleeping on the pavement

Thinking everything's all right

Waiting for tomorrow

To get us through tonight

And I ain't laughing

And I ain't joking anymore

I keep my footsteps near the ground

I keep my eyes glued to the floor

And somewhere in between

Only the starlets dream on this side of midnight

Been walking with the giants

Been sleeping in a town without a name

Been holding on to your arms and legs, your arms and legs

'Cause nobody would want to put you back together again

Together again, together again, together again

Maybe we're just crazy

Maybe we're better off dead

Maybe things will never change

Maybe you got it backwards in your head

The last of the ghetto astronauts to be ignored

Said I'm going to go where no one has gone before

Said I'm going to go where no one has gone before

No one, no one

Mmhmm yeah

have been a fan of Matthew's for going on 20 yrs now and am amazed that he is still putting out relevant, cutting edge, politically charged music. Saw him in Vancouver in a few incarnations during the early 90's and have not been disappointed.

I like the metaphor of "Last of the Ghetto Astronauts." This is coming from a white American man whose grandfather was one of the engineers who worked design on one of the lunar modules. He sent our know how into the deepest reaches of space at that time, only to have people pipe up with drama and act ignorant within the space of our own time. Here is hoping from a grandchild :o)

@AcousticSounds This song is from one of his pre-Matthew Good Band demos, '15 Hours on a September Thursday'. It's not possible to buy any official copies anymore, and hasn't been for over a decade at least. Several years ago Matt himself said he was fine with people sharing these files for free, but not to pay for the tracks since he wouldn't see a penny. I appreciate your sentiment, but what you're asking people to do is impossible.
