Indeed. And It's funny you say that because as an 8 year old kid I thought that was so rad seeing Pete Townsend do that with his cable in a video on MTV way back during their first year when they actually showed music videos.

how do you stop your self from treading on the cable and the cable coming out of the amp lol?

The tip on securing the cable behind the strap is priceless. Not only can you make yourself look foolish if you step on your cable and unplug your guitar, you can very easily break the wood where the jack is on some models like the SG where the jack is in a thin piece of wood to start with.
