I bought this album in 1985 after Robert Christgau wrote in his Village Voice Consumer Guide: "Suggesting both Dusty Springfield's breathy yearning and Karen Carpenter's AM plainstyle, Jones is a Bonnie Ronstadt for the local-band era--a nonwriter ready to raid the enormous store of good songs only pop cultists have ever heard....And topping them all is a loony vow of romantic devotion called 'Follow You All Over the World,' by one B. Simpson. Wonder how many more B. Simpsons have hidden such stuff away on their demo cassettes."

I've still got the original vinyl album, and I love this song most of all. I played in a band at the time, and we tried to play this, but we had a terrible singer. I probably stil have a recording of that.. / I just listened to our version, and it isn't so bad at all as I thought it was..

Another WHFS-er, introduced to Marti during the station's classic 80s era. Would love to find this on vinyl.

It is available on CD on A&M Germany. Hard to get hold of, though. Great pop album!

I wish that this record were available on compact disc. The place where my wife and I got married, Hampton Mansion near Baltimore, had a cedar of lebanon on the grounds, so I can't help connecting this song with our wedding day.

WHFS was just too good..I still miss the station, and I still have my HFS sweatshirt, with the world famous cat!

I initially heard this on WHFS back around '85. I loved their music selection, particularly because it wasn't the same 'ol handed-down list of top 20 hits, rather sets selected by their knowledgeable, fun-loving DJ's. "Unsophisticated Time" made it to one of my few recordings of 'HFS, along with Carlene Carter's "I'm so cool", followed by DEVO's "I'm through being cool" - really nice juxtaposition! Thanks HFS for expanding my music horizons and many years of great times!

ff - has a few whfs tapes as well. I remember a classic labor day show from 85 or 86. The set list was a work of art - Patti Smith, Van Morrison, Tom Waits Dylan and Marti Jones ..Think I tossed my cassettes a few years ago. Bummer.

And that's (WHFS) where I too first heard this song. I have it on cassette tape, and it still blows me away.

I recall their sad farewell show on 102.3. Then 6 months later they were up again on 99.1 in Annapolis. Eclectic mix & all of it wonderful. Besides those you mention, The Smithereens The Smiths Squeeze "Whiny Neil Young" as Weasel always called him Leon Redbone Leon Russell Dr. John Jennifer Warnes Tom Waits Karla Bonoff Maria Muldaur Taj Mahal The Roches Townes Van Zandt Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks Al Jareau Michael Franks Ricky Lee Jones Joan Armatrading ... and this only scratches the surface.

@joelgoodsun, mrabrams: WHFS ruled. Orig. 102.3 in Bethesda. Weasel, Cerf, David (he was the one who stuttered -- it was actually an amazing comeback for him from a severe auto accident). And I remember a jingle recorded for them by Dan Hicks: If I had my way, I would never leave my house or car, Cause leaving my radio behind is a-goin a bit too far, And the station that I listen to is the one that you do too-- In Bethesda, Maryland, it's WHFS One-oh-two-point-three FM In Bethesda, Maryland
