Mario's sings this hauntingly beautiful song with film clips to accompany him from the heart-touching movie Portrait of Jennie. Included later below is a comprehensive synopsis of the film's plot.

The music for this song was written by Robert Katscher and the lyrics by B.G. De Sylva.

The music clip added between Mario's singing is from:

Paul Whiteman, Henry Busse "WHEN DAY IS DONE" (1927) uploaded by bsgs98 and found complete at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jKDf9PuLqg

This video's film clips are from the 1hour 22 min upload: RETRATO DE JENNIE (1948) (COMPLETA) by Doblaje Vasco at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYOrj4kEI8c

The film "Portrait of Jennie is a 1948 fantasy film based on the novel by Robert Nathan. The film was directed by William Dieterle and produced by David O. Selznick. It stars Jennifer Jones and Joseph Cotten."

(The above quote is from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portrait_of_Jennie).

The following synopsis of the film is from:

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/portrait-of-jennie/

"In Portrait of Jennie, Joseph Cotten plays an artist, Eben Adams, who is unable to bring any true feeling to his work. While painting in Central Park one morning, Eben makes the acquaintance of a schoolgirl named Jennie (Jennifer Jones), who prattles on about things that happened years ago. Intrigued at her thorough knowledge of the past, Eben is about to converse with her further, but Jennie has vanished. Over the next few months, Eben meets Jennie again and again -- and each time she seems to have aged by several years. He paints her portrait, which turns out to be more full of expression and emotion than anything he's previously done. His curiosity peaked by Jennie's enigmatic nature, Eben uncovers evidence that he has been conversing -- and falling in love -- with the ghost of a girl who died years earlier in a hurricane. On the eve of the hurricane's anniversary, Eben rushes to meet Jennie at the site where she was supposedly killed. As a new storm rages, Jennie vanishes for good, but not before declaring that the love she and Eben have shared will live forever. Rescued from the storm, Eben convinces himself that Jennie was a mere figment of his imagination. Then he notices that he stills clutches her scarf in his hand. He looks at his portrait of Jennie (the only Technicolor shot in this otherwise black-and-white film) and understands what she meant when she said that their love would endure throughout eternity; it will do so through Cotten's art, both the portrait at hand and all future portraits. Based on the novel by Robert Nathan, Portrait of Jennie is one of the most beautifully assembled fantasies ever presented onscreen. Producer David O. Selznick's unerring eye for "rightness" enabled him to select the perfect stars, supporting cast (Lillian Gish, Ethel Barrymore, David Wayne, Cecil Kellaway, et al.), director, cinematographer (Joseph August), and composer (Dimitri Tiomkin, who based his themes on the works of Debussy), and blend everything into one ideally balanced package. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi"

I wish to thank siempreconstante V for his recent suggestion of this song of Mario's for uploading.

Olá Sandra, fiquei muito comovida com este vídeo. Embora o tema seja triste, a canção é belíssima e o arranjo orquestral é perfeito juntamente com a voz do grande Mário Lanza. Mais uma vez parabenizo-lhe por seu trabalho, obrigada.

Maureen, I'm so glad that you like my video. Mario's beautifully tender voice and this "hauntingly" beautiful movie really tear at one's heart. The film's producer, David O. Selznick, who did Gone With The Wind, certaintly put together a perfect cast for this "moving" motion picture. Evidently, it was a very favorite of both Joseph Cotten and Vivien Leigh. Take Care, Sandra

Mario sings this with such heart. Then, I remembered this movie from years ago. It breaks one's heart. Thank you again for your kind comment. Warmest Regards, Sandra P.S. Zina, I am very happy that you like this song and video. No, I had not heard of Guillaume Musso before your comment. I read a bit about him, that in 2009 he was the #2 best-selling author in France and has since sold millions of his books and that they have been translated into many languages. Thank you for the heads up about him. Kindest Regards, Sandra

Mike, I am happy that you like my video. As we age, we experience more, of course. Some are wonderful and happy experiences, some are painful, some are both, some are strange and defy reason. We gain understanding and sympathy along the way and, as a result, we become better people. My Best to You and Yours, Sandra

I think one needs to be of a certain age and to have had a particular and not usual experiential track to fathom what you have revealed with this video and music. I get it. And, absolutely love it. Mike
