Just Music. Mario Lanza & Licia Albanese sing "Dio Ti Giocondi" from "Otello" by Giuseppe Verdi in this 1955 recording for the "Serenade" soundtrack where Constantine Callinicos conducted the Waner Bros. Studio Orchestra. This is Part 2 of 2. Sorry, but I spelled Licia wrong in the video.

as for lucia albanese she s still alive at 100 and something...saw her once at a metropolitan opera guild luncheon around turn of century 21..walking around all peppy smiling had no problem chowing down either as i recall...you could tell she wanted some one to ask her to sing something..but no one did.

ye i agree..he sounds just like the guys singing otello over at the metropolitan opera these days...goes to show career oriented? sure you need the talent but you need to be hooked up with the right people too. maybe his hollywood career dampered his chances back then for the big house...now days it doesn t matter if you sing at the met or in the toilet providing you have talent. i think he died very young from diet pills?

For all of you who say Lanza had a small voice , to small for the Operatic stage , listen to this and re-evaluate your twisted opinions. Domingo never even attemptedthe High C and Mario never seemed to come off it. Lanza would have been the greatest Otello of them all had he chose to do the role, no disrespect to the other Mario that did make a career out of this role.

Thanks for posting! Very interesting to hear! Licia was one of the great vocal actresses of her time. Even if you don't speak Italian it's all there. Always loved her use of breath! Bartoli attempts it today but Licia was the mistress of it. Love what she does in Butterfly, in particular the duet in the recording with Jan Pearce. One of a kind as was Lanza. A bit out of his fach but very emotional all the same. Thanks again!

What a truly magnificent Otello he would have made! I've heard many tenors sing this including Tamagno, Zenatello, & more recently Domingo and I don't believe any of them comes close to this.

Please, if any videos of Albanese exist, let's have them; she was a great favorite of mine and so many other lovers of great singing.
