Mario Lanza's beautiful voice along with photos from "Brief Encounter" film with Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson, make a lovely combination.

Noël Coward wrote the song "I'll See You Again" which was later arranged by Axel Stordahl. The song is from the 1929 operetta "Bitter Sweet". Noël Coward also wrote and produced the 1945 screenplay "Brief Encounter" which is based on his 1936 one-act play "Still Life".

Lord Louis Mountbatten once said of him, "There are probably greater painters than Noël, greater novelists than Noël, greater librettists, greater composers of music, greater singers, greater dancers, greater comedians, greater tragedians, greater stage producers, greater film directors, greater cabaret artists, greater TV stars. If there are, they are fourteen (sic!) different people. Only one man combined all fourteen (sic!) different labels -- The Master".

"Brief Encounter" was directed by the well-known director Sir David Lean, (1908--1991). He was not only a famous English film director, but also a producer, screenwriter, and editor. "Brief Encounter" starred Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson, with Stanley Holloway. Sir David Lean not only directed "Brief Encounter" (1945), he also directed such famous films as "Great Expectations" (1946), "Oliver Twist" (1948), "Summertime" (1955), "The Bridge on the River Kwai" (1957), "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962), "Doctor Zhivago" (1965), "Ryan's Daughter" (1970) and "A Passage to India" (1984).

The movie "Brief Encounter" is available for purchase from amazon.co.uk.

The photo of Mario Lanza is from the film "The Great Caruso". This film is available for purchase from Turner Classic Movies.

Yes thank you-I loved "The King's Speech"-it was a beautiful movie and King George was a good king. I remember during the 2nd world war that he and Queen Elizabeth were often seen in newsreels surveying the damage caused by bombs during the Blitz-they refused to leave England but instead stayed with their loyal admirers. The two princesses never left England either-a very close family I believe. Thank you for acknowledging this great movie!

Hi Lygia, In English, you wrote: "Beautiful interpretation of a theme so romantic. How good that I am delighted with this video." I am happy that you like my video. The photos are from a very favorite film of mine. Noel Coward not only wrote the story for one of his plays, Still Life, which was later Brief Encounter, but he also wrote I'll See You Again. The song is from his 1929 operetta Bitter Sweet. I thought the pairing of his song and his story to be a perfect fit. My Regards, Sandra

So glad you liked the video, Maureen. Mario truly had a magnificent voice. Thank goodness for his films, TV appearances and his audio recordings. I see that you liked the video “Al Jolson - The One I Love Belongs to Somebody Else (1924)”. My mother was a devoted fan of his and I have long loved his voice as well. What a career he had, even in later years singing with just one lung. My favorite song of his is “About a Quarter to Nine”. Thank you again for your lovely comment.

Brief Encounter is one of my very favorite movies. Both Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson are fantastic in it. Thank goodness for TCM film library. Have you watched my video Mario Lanza – Song of Songs – Casablanca? I think that you will enjoy it. Occasionally, a superb film is made nowadays. Have you seen the 2010 British historical film The King's Speech with Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham Carter? It is truly excellent. I highly recommend it. Thank you again for your comment.

@Glinkaism1 Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of Noel Coward. It speaks very well of him that even though he experienced disappointment in some of his projects, he nonetheless persevered and acquired great success in others. It kind of reminds me of Thomas Edison. I think that he experimented with thousands of different filaments before succeeding in making a long lasting light bulb. Now, that's persistence!

@Glinkaism1 That's right and I think that he handled the situation very well.

@Glinkaism1 You are right. Masters at their craft, such as Coward, always make what they do appear easy and simplistic. Some people have to practice a long time in order to perfect their skills; others seem to be born with a natural talent. Lord Louis Mountbatten said it best, Coward was a great painter, novelist, librettist, composer, singer, dancer, comedian, tragedian, stage producer, film directors, cabaret artist, TV star. I agree with you, I think that her husband knew. Thanks again.

@Valdez244 Yes, a great song, it should have been added. Noël Coward produced “Brief Encounter”; he wrote this song in 1929, and he wrote the 1936 play, “Still Life”, upon which his 1945 film, “Brief Encounter”, is based. Mario was back from WW11 duty with Special Services in 1945. He could have sung it, he was well known at that time. You are right; it was a missed opportunity, just as Mario’s lovely song “Lygia” was left out of the film, “Quo Vadis?” which you put on your channel. Thank you
