Photos and voice of Mario Lanza with beautiful master paintings make a lovely listening and viewing combination.

"The music was written by Tolchard Evans, the lyrics by Robert Hargreaves and Stanley J. Damerell. The song was written in 1934, but the most popular versions were recorded in 1950-1951. Perry Como's version, recorded November 28, 1950, was a #1 charted hit on the Billboard charts for 8 weeks. "

"In 1689 the king's mistress, Madame de Maintenon, urged Racine to return to playwriting; at her request, he wrote two short religious plays Esther and Athalie that were performed by the girls of the convent of Saint-Cyr." Gigi, In English, you wrote:"Marvelous! Again, Sandra, you treat us to a magnificent voice of MARIO in this very beautiful video!" Always good to hear that you like my Mario videos. But, you know very well, as I do, that just his beautiful voice alone is all that is really needed for our enjoyment. We can picture him in our mind's eye standing before us and singing his heart out. But, I thank you from my heart for your kind words. May you continue to enjoy my videos. Warmest Regards, Sandra

Kevin, You have identified Mario's great attraction beyond his beautiful vocal quality. It's his ability to touch our hearts by his way of singing from the depth of his own heart, his "passion" as you describe it. Wishing you the best for a wonderful future, may you continue to fill your life with beautiful music. (Btw, I'm a "ma'am", not a "sir").

Kevin, Thank you so much for your translation. Although I am 68, I am still learning. How wonderful that at your age you recognize Mario's true classic beauty and quality of voice and that of music in general. May your heart continue to be open and able to be moved by such. May I say that this attribute shows maturity far beyond your chronological age. May you always keep this quality. May it in later time lead you to appreciate opera and ballet. Thank you so much for your kind response.

Haha, i will explain it to you. First of all, i am 15 years old so i could be talking in modern talk. Well, the ":')" is a smiley face ":)" with a tear, when i heard this i felt like that, its a beautiful song and it moves me to tears. Mario Lanza is one of the best singers i have ever heard. This version of "If" is the second best one that i have ever heard. I still prefer the one by Bill Kenny, but that is mainly becuase Mario has a different voice. Both equally good, both different. , Kevin

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand what :') means in plain English. Could you please be specific in your translation of this symbol? I assume that it is part of young people's texting code. Please let me know, because it looks like a happy face with a tongue sticking out, or it is possibly a dimple formed on a cheek due to a large smile. I prefer the latter, of course, but please enlighten this 68 year old. I'm very curious as to its meaning. Thank you or anyone else who explains it to me.

@toff358 Yes, Mario sang with his whole heart. There are many technically perfect singers focusing on HOW to produce the sound. But there are very few who put true feeling into WHAT they sing. Mario was a wonder; he had a glorious voice which not only pleased our ears, but also touched our hearts. I am very happy that you enjoyed the video. Kindest Regards

@Valdez244 j Thank you so much. I appreciate your comment very much. Mario sang everything so from the heart, but the way he sings this particular song seems to really stand out. This beautiful song, his magnificent voice and delivery combine to make this a shining jewel among the treasures which he left to us. Your video, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (Suite), is just wonderful. Your choice and placement of the photos from the film with his score are truly excellent. Very well done!
