As a huge fan of both 3OH!3 and Marina, I have always interpreted the boys' version as being afraid to fall in love and wanting to live a wild life instead of committing to someone out of fear of it failing. Marina's cover, since it's from a female perspective, comes off as a girl who is desperately looking for love but no one will love her for her personality.

She states the feeling of the song changes because she is a woman and the original creators are outgoing males which is seriously wrong. It's about the tone and how you sing it, if the males sang it this seriously with this slow pace then it would have the same deeper feeling, just saying.

See, the thing is, Marina made a rather shallow song (not hate, I promise) about picking up atttactive women into an emotional song about a girl who is only liked for her looks. Even she (the girl in the song) believes that her only redeeming feature is her appearance, which is just crushing her.
