It's funny how Marilyn uses the political and religious viewpoint on how one could be so bi-polar in love. It's genius by representing the duality in life of all forms. Love/Hate, Life/Death, God/Satan, Republican/Democrat. I believe the message here is that it takes both man and woman to feel complete in relationship in this life, but both male and female can play both roles in their own masculine and feminine ways. But things like religion and politics make it debatable with the issue of Straight/Gay that it really holds no merit when you come to the realization that human is X/Y in their DNA chromosome identity. Therefore we are all one in the same in our nature.
