this is assuredly the finest mack the knife out there (good in tandem with nick cave's). she gets all the joyful creepiness that weill hid in there long ago. that said, her pirate jenny is wonky and comes nowhere near any of nina simone's performances of that song. if you ask my opinion!

I think this is one of the very best recordings of this. Lotte Lenya's earlier recordings were great but I prefer the "lived in" quality of Faithfull's voice as it is these days. And her Pirate Jenny I think is THE best.
