I would humbly say that satan is hidden in plain sight, right in front of us. My question to you is, do you know they even did go to the pit? God works in mysterious ways, yet so does Satan doesn't he? Satan would be more subtle than this wouldn't he? A good example is how Hitler wasn't the Antichrist. It would be obvious for him to put someone is such a major seat of power, and have him be vicious this that and the other. This is why the Antichrist will be a seemingly loving entity till towards the end.
