This music video blew my mind when I was 17, it haunted me. I had no idea who Sarah Mclachlan was at the time.

I was a DJ from 1987 to 1998, I did my college radio station 4 hours weekly from 1987 to 1990, which was fantastic & my creative outlet- meaning I could play whatever i wanted, regardless of popularity. I played mostly NewWave, Dance, Electronic, & Alternative music. I had a Nettwerk Sampler Compilation album with Moev, Chris & Cosey, I loved Manufacture's 12" Single, "As the end draws Near." It was 3 or 4 years later that I found out Sara McLachlan was the vocalist.

Listened to this track thousand times, though it had nothing to do with the others in Terrorvision!

Well, I recall reading in local music rags that Nettwerk's "founding" band Moev tried to get Sarah as their new vocalist - but she decided to sign instead as a solo artist with Nettwerk. If I recall, she had already released her first album by the time she did As The End Draws Near but she hadn't hit paydirt yet with her own material. I guess at the time she was willing to take the work to get herself established. I can recall seeing her open for GoW and no one in the audience knew who she was.

GoW sounds familiar. I'm beginning to see the common thread here, though, lol. I remember when Sarah had a fit over Rabbit in the Moon's remix of "Possession," resulting in the vinyl becoming highly sought after and selling for ridiculous prices. I guess she considered the Manufacture stent a phase. :| I still give credit to Nettwerk for signing Way Out West (I'm a huge fan) in 2001 and releasing Intensify in North America as far as electronic dance music is concerned.

True, I forgot about Delerium - mostly because their fame came after Sarah. Nettwerk always had bands that weren't in the electronic/industrial vein - The Grapes of Wrath the best known of the bunch in those early days. But the Grapes (who had commerical success with Treehouse) never seemed to dent Nettwerk's original sound in the manner that Sarah did. Sarah's success obliterated (experimental) Nettwerk music, where there is a real distinction between the pre-Sarah and post-Sarah sound.

Well, Delerium sold out in a way also in later years, so I guess the thought of drawing in cash through commercial success was too tempting for Nettwerk as well as several artists with whom they were associated. Same could be said for Single Gun Theory, but I enjoyed their more mainstream stuff just as much.

The album (Terrorvision) that this track came from was one of the best electronic "industrial" albums before that term got hijacked by the likes of Ministry in the mid-1990s. Sadly, Manufacture's second album lost the menacing edge of Terrorvision. The supreme irony here with this song was Nettwerk changed direction and went downhill / sold-out / turned-their-backs-on-their-roots after they signed Sarah McLauchlan and ditched acts like Skinny Puppy, Severed Heads, etc.

Agree with TheBukrules. The Nettwerk Industrial days were grand.

Have only heard the above tune by Manufacture (I need to dig up the rest), but if the rest comes close to measuring up to this amazing piece of 80's "apocalyptica," I'll be in for a treat. This one includes none other than the legendary Sarah McLachlan on vocals.

Absolutely underexposed, and underrated. The keyboard is simple but genius.

Thank you SO much for putting this video up! I always loved Manufacture & have always thought they were one of the very best & yet horribly underexposed & neglected electronic/industrial bands of all time. You made my day!
