According to author Colin MacKenzie -- Mantovani: A Lifetime in Music (2005), p. 126 -- Mantovani was a bit apprehensive when his arranger, Ronnie Binge, first presented to him the score of this version of Charmaine (the cascading strings was a novelty), but once Mantovani and his orchestra played it through, they all loved it. And of course it proved to be a great success.
