I think you will find one of the other trumpeters is Lee Castle, who was the lead trumpeter and took over the band after Jimmy's death, I think he is on the far left. Although born in the 60's I've always loved the big bands and of all the great bands the Dorsey's had I think the best overall band. Would love to see more of the Stage Show excerpts, there are a few available on CD including some of Ernie Wilkins excellent arrangements for the band. Gareth

My parents had the original recording of studio version of this on an Columbia 78. It's from the mid 40's. Jimmy's solo was almost the same although he hits a few higher notes here. Unlike Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman he played the older Albert system clarinet. As witnessed by this performance he was a fine clarinet player.

Is this clip from the Dorsey Brothers TV show of the mid-1950s (on CBS, I believe)? I have never seen this before, as the show was not broadcast in UK at the time as far as I know. It is a pity the print (I assume a film of the original video, as the show would have gone out live) is not very good, so I cannot see clearly Charlie Shavers and Louie Bellson. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
