I agree they have a real unique style which is hard to label but it does have very strong ska/reggae fundementals like the offbeat guitar skanks and the melodic basslines. I would still call them a ska band but they transformed ska into a crazy and creative form which is what bands SHOULD do but many dont

Spot on, one of the reasons they are so underated is they are pigeon-holed as a knockabout ska band. People should actually learn what type of music it refers to. Then listen to every 80's album since One Step Beyond and see if any of it matches the description, maybe a fusion of ska on some Absolutely tracks.

I really wish people would stop calling them a ska band. First couple of singles maybe but they soon developed there own unique sound that probebly had more to do with Roxy Music than ska. They were quite unique. Every single from One step beyond too Ghost Train was different. Which is a lot more that can be said of Oasis.
