Madeleine Peyroux
Place: Sani Hill, Halkidiki
Date: 14/07/2013
Song: Min ton Rotas ton Ourano
Written by: Manos Hadjidakis
Madeleine's voice is magic. Its sensitivity captivates you.
Sani Hill was the ideal setting for such an honest performance of Manos Hadjidakis's Min Ton Rotas Ton Ourano. It was the first time that Madeleine sung it for the public -- just a few hours before her concert at Sani Festival, while her band was rehearsing a few meters away and the sound of the waves and the wind blended in. The song was a surprise for the Greek audience and Madeleine's bandrop performance was a preview of the great concert that followed later that night. She had heard the English version of the song, but was mesmerized by the original Greek verse and decided to go for it -- being a strong believer in the power of poetry. "Don't pick a fight with the poet" she once said, and I could not agree with her more. We are grateful that this was one of the first bandrop sessions. (L.C.)
