Live from Whelan's in Dublin in November 2012, here is Luka Bloom in his homeland performing 'Fertile Rock' from his album Turf. Here's a little description from Luka himself:
"It is hard to believe it is 20 years since we protested around Mullaghmore in The Burren. That was when I wrote Fertile Rock. I always associated the song with that time, and that place.
And yet, no matter where in the world I sing it, people connect with it, and sing it with me.
Nowadays when I sing it, it feels very healing. There is no protest; only love of a special place and it's people. And whenever I sing it now, I think of John O'Donohue, who is incredibly, 5 years gone from us this January.
His body is gone, but his words and his spirit are with us all the time.
This version of Fertile Rock comes from Whelans last November. Steve Cooney, Robbie Harris, Robbie Perry and meself. Donal Scannell was Scorsese on the night, and the people did some fairly tasty singing too."
