A rare clip of the great lyric tenor Luigi Alva in one of his best roles, that of Don Ottavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni.

Magnificent - and I love the measured pace of this lovely interpretation of one of Mozart's greatest tenor arias - bravissimo.

I heard Alva sing in Brisbane Australia during the 1960s. Very refined. Love John McCormack's version and also that of the great Richard Tauber.

Excellent breath control! Burrows and McCormack are comparable. After them the rest fall short.

Where did you find this hypnotic footage? And is there anymore where there came from? I've seen the Dalla Sua Pace, but I've still got an appetite for the great Alva in this formidable1960 version of Don Ottavio!

It´s definetely the best version to learn from, but he doesn´t manage to keep the same tempo!!!!

Alva never sang liric or heroic repertoir, he was a ligth tenor. Don't compare apples with pears.

I agree with you completely, Luigi Alva is my favourite tenor and this is one of his best pieces.. John McCormack sang at a different time and this is one of his best pieces, Stuart Burrows does well too. they would be my top three.
