@Jim Nesta- actually Arthur Lee was already experimenting with this sound when he heard the Byrds music. Lee had already written and performed, soul, blues, rock , folk and even SURF sound music . He was ahead of his time and Love had a potent sound like MC5 in the early 70s...

Is Arthur Lee trying to get a little of the Jim McGuinn(Byrds) look with those glasses?

I remember this as if it were only yesterday. Hung out with Arthur and Johnny. Very humble guys...wonder where they are now... and yes, it was kind of like a 'castle'! In the canyon!

I love music from the mid-60's, before the psychedelic era really took hold and stuck us with endless guitar solos. There was mad experimentation with styles, like this one here from Arthur Lee and Love. #throwbackthursday.

In 1966, the Los Angeles band “Love” released their self-titled debut album. It was hailed as a classic in the new folk-rock style, and sold 150,000 copies. A single from it, “My Little Red Book,” written by Burt Bacharch and Hal David, was a hit.

This fantastic rendition of the song needs to be played at very high volume.

Manfred Mann did another version that was mediocre but this is the greatest version. I think in time Bacharach was won over some.

The first time I ever heard this song was in the movie, "What's New, Pussycat?" Peter O'Toole and Paula Prentiss (a stripper), are dancing to this tune at a club, and O'Toole starts to strip, right on the dance floor. In the flick, the song is done by Manfred Mann.
