This performance of "I Travel Alone" by legend Lou Ragland is yet another performance from my now legendary documentary, "The Strange World Of Northern Soul". Lou Ragland was born on July 18th 1942, in Cleveland Ohio. His parents encouraged and opened their young minds to almost every cultural institution in the state of Ohio. Lou was introduced at a very early age to music and musical instruments. His home was always filled with the sounds of the world¹s greatest performers of all time, Such greats as Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Johnny Ray, Ear Grant, Ray Charles and composers such as Bach, Beethoven and Brahms. At the age of thirteen, Lou was even more inspired when he heard a song played on the radio called "Goody, Goody", sung by Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers. From then on, in school Lou learned to play any musical instrument he could get his hands on. The tuba, clarinet and also sax just to name a few. While in school, some of Lou's constant companions were Wilkie, Abram, Ronnie, Jimmy and Leonard. Some of them eventually sang in his very first group, The Monclairs. In 1967 he released this fantastic solo song, "I Travel Alone" for Bell Records' imprint called Amy. To this day it remains rare, sought-after and very valuable. In the 1970's he made another record to go massive on the Northern Soul scene, called "Since You Said You'd Be Mine".Lou Ragland is the lead singer for The World Famous Ink Spots and one of the Vegas Tenors.
