Johnny Horton On Stage
A Collection of Famous Performances
Much effort has been made to put this album together. Johnny died so young and so suddenly that few recordings were left to present to the public. Now, although the songs are not new, those who loved Johnny may have an album of songs that he introduced on stage. The live performance was taped by Mr. Leon Stokes, from my hometown of Bossier City, Louisiana, and presented to me so that we can share Johnny's voice with those who are still loyal to his memory.
On behalf of my children, Johnny's mother, Mrs. Claudia Horton, and myself, I would like to express my appreciation for the endless hours of work done by the album's producers, Don Law and Frank Jones, the Columbia Records engineers in Nashville, Tennessee, and all the men in the editing department who spent so many hours editing the tapes. I know the problems involved in finishing a record without the artist there. I know the problems the promotion men have in promoting a personality that the public can no longer see. I know the problems that Johnny Cash had in putting background music to many of the songs. A personal thank you, Johnny Cash.
There is not much I can add to my husband's background that has not already been written. Like many other entertainers, he was terribly poor one day and wonderfully successful the next. If there was a happy medium, we didn't find it. But we loved all the days and accepted whatever came with a smile.
