I hardly feel qualified to give tips. I haven't been playing for long. When I try to learn a song I try to find a working compromise between the original and my level of skill. The result will become "your own arrangement" ;) I break it down into small parts. I learn the parts in slow motion; I connect the parts and speed up as I go along. I am lucky to live with some one willing to put up with me playing a song badly over and over again. (It goes both ways, though she is much better than me).
